In the end, the decision is your own.
But you 'could' register a second account, write PMs to your followers, move your submissions*, remove your old account a day later and then hope for the best. There's always "loss" in these cases, but in your current situation, it would be rather low.
The best piece of advice I can give you would be to spend a long time thinking about your new username, so you never have to deal with this again.
